  2. Major Requirements (39 hours)
    1. Core Courses (21 hours):
      1. ART 110(3), MED 365(3); MUS 216(3)
      2. One course from: ART 210(3), ART 230(3), MED 361(3) or MED 382(3). Note: course cannot be double-counted toward the student's selected 18 hour option.
      3. ART 300(3)
      4. Six hours from ART 498(3) or MED 498(3)
    2. Choose one of the following options (18 hours):
      1. Audio Studies: MED 461(3), MED 561(3); MUS 100(2), MUS 316(3); select seven hours of electives from: MED 361(3), MED 382(3), MED 492(1-3), MED 595(1-3); MUS 103(3), MUS 137(1), MUS 327(2), MUS 399(1-3), MUS 416(3), MUS 512(3), MUS 529(3); THE 558(3). Audio Studies students must complete MUS 216 before making a portfolio application to the program.
      2. Computer Animation Studies: See Department of Art and Design section of catalog.
      3. Interactive New Media Studies: ART 210(3), ART 310(3), ART 410(3); select nine hours of electives from: MED 290(3), MED 355(3), MED 466(3), MED 492(3), MED 595(1-3); DES 202(3), DES 340(3), CIS 260(3). DES 202 or DES 340 should be taken only after successful completion of initial portfolio review. Interactive New Media Studies students must complete ART 210 before making a portfolio application to the program.
      4. Video Studies: ART 230(3); MED 465(3); select 12 hours of electives from: MED 360(3), MED 462(3), MED 466(3), MED 472(3), MED 492(1-3), MED 562(3), MED 565(3), MED 567(3), MED 582(3), MED 583(3), MED 595(1-3). Video Studies students must complete MED 365 before making a portfolio application to the program.
    3. Successful completion of the junior portfolio review and the achievement of a "C" or better grade in all required option courses completed at the time of the junior portfolio review must be achieved before admission to ART 498/MED 498, Senior Project in Electronic Arts, will be granted.
    4. Public Affairs Capstone (PAC) Experience – all students are required to complete a three hour PAC Experience by completing one of the following options:
      1. MED 498 – senior thesis project directly related to cultural competence, community engagement, and/or ethical leadership issues. The PA component of the senior project will be defined specifically when the senior project is approved by the faculty team teaching the course.
      2. Study Away Experience – a study away experience of at least three hours will automatically meet the PAC requirement. Students will be expected to address issues related to cultural competency in their self-reflective report at the end of the study away experience.
      3. MED 595 – a three hour internship will meet the PAC requirement when the internship directly involves at least one aspect of the PA components (community engagement, cultural competency or ethical leadership).
      4. MED 492 – a three hour independent study will meet the PAC requirement when it involves a substantial component involving community engagement or cultural competency.
  3. Minor Required. Note: No more than 6 hours may count for both the Electronic Arts major and the minor. Students should seek advisor approval for courses in the minor.
