EA Audio Studies 4 Year Plan

The below schedule is only one example of a possible degree program.  This example plan should not be used as a strict guide to completion of the program.  Please see your advisor early each semester to discuss possible variations of your own degree plan.  Effective academic advisement is a partnership, with the advisees sharing in the responsibility.

Students pursuing audio studies will be required to complete: MED 461(3), 561(3); MUS 100(2), 316(3); and select 7 hours of electives with advisor approval from: MED 361(3), 492(3), 595(1-3); MUS 103(3), 137(1), 327(2), 399(1-3), 416(3), 512(3), 529(3); THE 558(3).

Entrance to the EA program is selective.  Students must complete at least 3 of the 4 pre-core admission classes (ART 100, MED 290, MED 365, MUS 216), including the course in the option area to which they will apply, before making a portfolio application.  Portfolio includes a minimum of two and a maximum of three examples of work in the option area (audio, video, interactive new media, or computer animation) with at least one example coming from the preadmission core course in the track to which the student is applying.

Because of the structure of the EA program it would be very difficult to complete this degree in three years.  Though not impossible, candidates would have to be accepted into the program in the fall semester of the second year.  This outcome is difficult to accomplish given course periodicity and the requirement to have completed the pre-core classes before making the formal portfolio application to the program.

The EA major requires a minor.  No more than 6 hours may count toward both the major and the minor.

NOTE: If you intend to take a minor in media or to use media as a fall back degree option if not accepted into the EA program, MED 130: Fundamentals of Media Convergence would be a good class to take early in semester #3.

Students need a minimum of 125 hours with 40 hours of coursework at a 300+ course level to graduate.

Periodicity of many classes is important with many scheduled as F (fall) or S (spring) only classes.  Check catalog.
